Edward Anthony Masen Cullen was born to parents Elizabeth and Edward Masen on June 20, 1901. While suffering severely of the Spanish Influenza in Chicago 1918 at age 17, a mysterious young doctor named Carlisle Cullen transformed him into a vampire at the request of his mother to do anything in his power. Little did she know he would transform Edward. Both of Edward’s parents had succumbed to the Spanish Influenza pandemic prior to his “rebirth” (september 1918).He currently resides in Forks, Washington with his adoptive vampire family: parents Esme and Carlisle, and siblings Alice Cullen, Emmett Cullen, Rosalie Hale and Jasper Hale. Against his better judgment, Edward fell deeply in love with Bella Swan, a human. Initially, it was the unique, aroma of her blood that hungrily ensnared his attention. In consequence, the dormant beast residing within him awakened… nearly destroying him, and ultimately all that he and his family had worked so desperately to conceal.
Edward’s fascination for the “danger-magnet,” Bella, abruptly evolves into an indefinable passionate love and adoration. However, Bella’s abnormal attraction for danger heavily weighs upon Edward’s conscience. He finds himself saving her from being hit by Tyler Crowley’s car in the school parking lot and then again in Port Angles from four strange men. After the Port Angles incident he and Bella are forever inseparable. Edward finds himself unable to stay away and is soon showing Bella his vampire “powers” and introducing her to his family.
Edward can hear people’s thoughts, but finds it very odd and unexplainable that he cannot hear Bella’s. He’s upset that Bella actually wants to become a vampire, and always refuses when she asks him to turn her.
His brothers and sisters include Alice, who can see the future, Jasper, who can control your emotions, Emmett, who has supernatural strength (even for a vampire), and the amazingly beautiful Rosalie. Though most of them trust their natural instincts and avoid her because of her sweet smelling blood, they eventually adjust to the change and support Edward’s feelings for Bella. They are not all children of Carlisle Cullen and his vampire wife Esme, although that is the ‘public story’. Jasper was changed by a woman called Maria, who spotted him one night while he was a high-ranking soldier. Alice was changed by an old man who wanted to save her fron the sadistic ”tracker” James.
While Jasper and Emmett’s parents remain unknown, Rosalie and Edward talk of their parents occaisionally. Alice is from an asylum and doesn’t know who created her nor does she remember her past human life.
Edward is described as being impossibly beautiful. His face is angular and perfect–high cheekbones, strong jawline, straight nose, and beautiful, perfect lips. His hair, which is always in casual disarray, is an unusual bronze shade inherited by his biological mother, Elizabeth. As a human, his eyes were an emerald green. He is said to have a dazzling crooked smile. He stands 6’2″, has a slender yet muscular body, and is physically 17 years old.
In the final book, Breaking dawn, he and Bella Swan marry. While on their honeymoon, she realises that she is pregnant and, after almost being killed by the fast growing baby, she gives birth to their daughter, Renesmee Cullen (A play on Bella’s mother Renée and Edward’s adoptive mother Esme). As Bella almost dies giving birth, Edward injects his venom into her heart, thus transforming her into a vampire. haha spoiler :)
